Sandy, Biggleswade and Potton, at the far edge of my patch.
Colour, balayage, cuts and group bookings at home across Sandy, Biggleswade, Potton, Gamlingay and the villages between. Twenty years behind the chair, Vidal Sassoon trained, around half an hour from Yelling.
Inside the usual area, but only just.
Most pages like this tell you the hairdresser covers everywhere and nowhere is too far. I would rather tell you how it actually works. My home salon is in Yelling, just the other side of St Neots, and the mobile service covers anywhere within roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive from Yelling. Sandy is around half an hour. Gamlingay and Potton are a little over that, and Biggleswade is around 35 minutes, about seventeen miles. So you are inside the area I cover, but you are at the outer edge of it, and that changes how I would suggest you book.
My name is Biba. I have been doing hair for twenty years, I trained at Vidal Sassoon, and I worked my way up to senior and director roles in salons before going it alone. I come out this way regularly, and I am happy to. But a drive of that length makes far more sense for an appointment that fills a morning than for ten minutes with the scissors, and you will get a better slot from me if we plan around that together.
None of that costs you more. The call-out is £10, the same as it is for somebody in St Neots, and it is already built into the Home Visit version of each service on Fresha. Being in Bedfordshire rather than Cambridgeshire does not add anything to it. What it does mean is that colour, longer treatments and group bookings are where a home visit out here really earns its keep.
Four steps, and two of them are planning.
- 01
Book the longer appointment
Colour, balayage, a keratin treatment or a few of you back to back. On Fresha, choose the Home Visit version of each service rather than the salon one.
- 02
Tell me who else is nearby
If a sister in Potton or a neighbour two doors down wants a slot too, say so in the notes. Two visits on the same run are easier to fit than two separate trips.
- 03
Sort the skin test early
First colour with me needs a skin test at least 48 hours before. Out here I will usually post it, so message me as soon as you have booked.
- 04
Sink, chair, socket
No backwash and no hydraulic chair. Your hair is washed at the kitchen sink or in the bath, and I sweep up before I go.
Grouping appointments is the single most useful thing you can do at this end of the patch. If your mum is in Everton and you are in Sandy, or two of you on the same Biggleswade street both want colour, tell me and I will try to put you on the same day. One run out, two or three appointments, and both of you are far more likely to get the time you actually wanted.
Colour is worth the drive.
A full head of foils takes two to three hours depending on how much hair you have. Balayage is around two and a half. A keratin smoothing treatment can be three. Set against that, half an hour in the car is nothing, and you get the whole appointment in your own kitchen with the kettle on and nobody watching the clock.
That is why most of my bookings on this side are colour: half, three-quarter and full head foils, balayage, toners and colour refreshes, usually with a cut and blow dry on the end. If you are weighing up which technique suits your hair, I have written about balayage or foils, and there is more on colour and balayage and on keratin and Brazilian blow dries on their own pages.
The skin test is the one thing to get ahead of. It has to be done at least 48 hours before your first colour with me, and from Yelling to Biggleswade and back is not a trip I can make twice in a week just to drop off a patch test. So I post it. Message me as soon as you have booked and it will be with you in plenty of time.
What people said about the colour.

Biba has been doing my hair for over 10 years along with my sister, sister-in-law, niece and daughters. We have always been extremely pleased with Biba's cuts, colours, and blow drys. We all highly recommend her.

Always so happy with the condition Biba leaves my hair in, and I'm so so happy with the colour.

These are from the same Google, Facebook and Fresha reviews as the rest of the site. None of them are tagged by town, so I am not claiming they came from Sandy or Biggleswade. They are here because colour is what most people out this way book. The full set is on the reviews page.
Down the A1, or across on the B1040.
- Sandy
- Biggleswade
- Potton
- Gamlingay
- Everton
- Tempsford
- Moggerhanger
- Blunham
- Northill
- Upper Caldecote
- Wrestlingworth
- Waresley
There are two ways down. For Sandy and Biggleswade the quickest is the A1 from St Neots, past the Black Cat and Tempsford, with Everton just off to the east and Upper Caldecote just west of the road before Biggleswade. For Gamlingay and Potton I usually go across country instead, crossing the A428 at Eltisley and taking the B1040 south through Waresley and Gamlingay. From Potton the B1042 runs on to Sandy and out towards Wrestlingworth.
Moggerhanger and Blunham, west of Sandy on the Bedford side, are on the same footing. If you are further south, towards Langford or Shefford, ask before you book. Colour and group bookings are often worth the extra miles, and I would rather give you a straight answer on the phone than have you not bother asking.
The salon in the boot, the sink in your kitchen.
Everything on the services list travels. Cuts for the whole family, blow dries, up-dos and occasion hair, the full colour kit with foils, lightener and toners, Olaplex, Wella and Moroccanoil treatments, keratin smoothing, men's perms and flow cuts, and brows, lashes, waxing and facials. When you are at the far end of my round, it is worth stacking things up: a colour and a brow tint in the same visit means one morning at home rather than two.
What does not travel is a backwash. I do not carry a hydraulic chair or a portable basin, so your hair is washed at your kitchen sink or in the bath. I say that on every page because I would hate to drive half an hour and find you were expecting a reclining basin in the hallway. In practice a sink with a mixer tap is ideal, a shower over the bath is fine, and I bring the towels and gowns.
From you I need a chair near a plug socket, a bit of floor space and a sink I can rinse at. I sweep up before I leave, and nothing ends up on the carpet.
Group bookings are the other appointment that suits this end of the patch beautifully. Weddings, proms, birthdays, a mother and daughters afternoon: everyone done in one house, one call-out, nobody driving anywhere with wet hair. Ask about it rather than booking blind, so I can block the time properly and plan the order backwards from when you need to leave.
Bedford next door, St Neots on the way.
Sandy and Biggleswade have a sister page. If you are further west, the Bedford page covers the town and the villages on the A421, including Blunham, Great Barford and Willington. St Neots itself, and Eaton Socon on the way down to the A1, have their own St Neots page.
If you would rather come to me, the home salon is at 10 High Street, Yelling, PE19 6SD, around half an hour from Sandy, with parking outside and the kettle on. Plenty of clients at this end do a bit of both: the long colour appointment at home, a quick trim in Yelling when they are passing St Neots anyway. Both versions are on Fresha, listed separately so you can see what each one costs.
The wider picture of how the mobile service works across both counties is on the mobile hairdressing page. You can read how I got here, look at what a mobile hairdresser actually costs, or send me a question and I will answer it myself.
What people ask from this side of the A1.
Do you really come as far as Sandy and Biggleswade?
Yes. My usual area is roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive from Yelling, and Sandy is around half an hour away. Biggleswade is around 35 minutes, so it sits inside that, but towards the far end. I would rather tell you that honestly than pretend it is round the corner.
Which villages do you cover on this side?
Sandy, Biggleswade and Potton, and the villages around them: Gamlingay, Everton, Tempsford, Moggerhanger, Blunham, Northill, Upper Caldecote, Wrestlingworth and Waresley. If you are further south, towards Langford or Shefford, ask before you book and I will give you a straight answer.
Is it more expensive because you are coming further?
No. It is £10 on top of the service price, the same call-out as everywhere else inside the usual area, and it is built into the Home Visit version of the service on Fresha. There is no Bedfordshire surcharge and nothing added on the day.
What is worth booking a home visit for out here?
Anything, but colour makes the most sense. Foils take two to three hours and balayage around two and a half, so the drive is a small part of a long appointment. Group bookings are the other one: several people in one house, one trip, one call-out.
Can I book just a quick trim?
Yes, it is still bookable. If you can be a bit flexible about the day, it helps me to fit a short appointment in when I am already out this way for somebody else, and you are more likely to get the slot you want.
Which way do you drive?
Either down the A1 from St Neots, past the Black Cat and Tempsford, which is quickest for Sandy and Biggleswade, or across country on the B1040 through Waresley and Gamlingay to Potton. Either way it is a pleasant drive and part of my week.
How does the skin test work if you are a long way away?
It has to be done at least 48 hours before your first colour with me. Out this way I will usually post it to you. It takes about a minute to do, but colour cannot go ahead without one, so message me as soon as you have booked.
Where do you wash my hair?
At your sink or in your bath. I do not bring a portable backwash or a hydraulic chair, and I would rather say so plainly before I make the trip than after. A kitchen sink with a mixer tap is usually easiest.
How much do you charge?
Prices depend on hair length, thickness and how long the appointment takes, so they live on Fresha where they stay accurate. Both the salon and the home visit versions are listed, so you can see exactly what you are booking before you confirm.
