The nearest town on the Cambridge side

Cambourne is closer to Yelling than most of my week.

When people picture a mobile hairdresser they tend to picture somebody driving a long way to them. For Cambourne it is the opposite. My home salon is in Yelling, around 20 minutes along the A428, and on the Cambridge side of the village there is no bigger place I can reach quicker. Papworth Everard is closer again, around seven minutes. If you live out this way, you are not at the edge of my patch. You are in the middle of it.

My name is Biba. I have been doing hair for twenty years, I trained at Vidal Sassoon, and I spent years in senior and director roles in salons before setting up on my own with a home salon in Yelling and a mobile service that covers Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. You can read how I got here if you would like to know who is turning up at your door.

The drive is easy enough. From Yelling I head out onto the A428 and east past Croxton and Eltisley, and Cambourne sits just beyond the Caxton Gibbet roundabout. It is the sort of journey where the villages on the way are not a detour at all, which is why Caxton, Elsworth and Bourn are just as easy for me as the town itself.

What you get is the appointment you would have had in a salon. The same Wella, Moroccanoil and Olaplex products, the same professional dryer and tongs, a proper consultation before anybody touches your hair. What you do not get is loading the children into the car, finding a space, and keeping a four year old entertained in a waiting area for forty minutes while somebody else has their colour done.

How it works

Four steps, and one of them is which Cambourne.

  1. 01

    Pick the Home Visit

On Fresha, choose the Home Visit version of the service rather than the salon one. If it is a child's cut, pick the age band that fits and add the grown-ups to the same visit.

  2. 02

    Tell me which Cambourne

Great, Lower, Upper or West. Put the full address and postcode in the notes, plus where I should leave the car.

  3. 03

    Clear one corner

A chair near a plug socket and a sink I can rinse at. I do not carry a backwash or a hydraulic chair, so the kitchen sink does the job.

  4. 04

    Everyone done, nobody drove

One visit, as many haircuts as we booked, the floor swept before I go. Book the next one at the door if you want the same slot again.

The second one is less of a joke than it sounds. Cambourne is several neighbourhoods rather than one, and a street name on its own does not always tell me which. If your parking is round the back or in a shared court rather than out the front, say so too. Thirty seconds in the booking notes, saying which part of town you are in and where I should leave the car, means I knock on the right door at the right time.

Families first

One visit, everybody's hair.

Cambourne has grown up quickly since the first houses went up at the end of the nineties, and a lot of the people who book me there are young families on the newer estates. The pattern is nearly always the same. A parent wants their own cut or colour, the children are overdue a trim, and the idea of getting everybody to a salon on the same afternoon is not going to happen.

So I come to the house and work through everyone in turn. Adults in whatever order suits, children slotted in around naps, tea and homework. A newer kitchen tends to suit a home visit well: there is usually room for the chair and a sink close by. If the house is busy, I am perfectly happy working around it. The washing machine can keep going.

Children's cuts are booked by age on Fresha, in these bands:

  • Age 5 and under
  • Age 6 to 12
  • Age 12 to 16, short hair
  • Age 12 to 16, long hair

Adult prices apply if a children's appointment runs past an hour, including colour and styling.

Children are almost always easier at home. A child who will not sit still in a salon chair is usually fine in their own kitchen with a favourite programme on and their own toys on the floor. I go at their speed, I explain what the scissors are doing, and if somebody needs five minutes off halfway through we stop. Colour is the one thing I will not do on under-16s.

From parents

What people said after the little ones were done.

  • First time experience with Biba has been wonderful! I have a small baby and she was very understanding of my needs. Haircut was just the way I wanted it. Thoroughly recommend her to anyone looking for a beautiful home haircut

Elisa G · Wash, cut, style and blow dry · Fresha, June 2026

  • Incredibly patient and so lovely to my three year old who is a real handful during haircuts. Cannot speak highly enough of the welcome and friendliness and to get a good cut done on a tricky customer!

    James E · Children's haircut · Fresha, June 2026

  • Biba came to do my little boys hair, he hates having it cut but Biba was amazing, she spoke to him very calmly and somehow, despite all of his wriggling has given him a fantastic hair cut.

    Vikki Gibson · Children's haircut · Google, February 2026

These come from the same Google, Facebook and Fresha reviews as the rest of the site, and none of them are tagged by town, so I am not claiming they were left in Cambourne. They are here because they answer the question every parent asks first. The full set is on the reviews page.

When I can come

Saturdays and evenings are a normal part of the week.

A lot of people in Cambourne work somewhere else, in Cambridge or further along the A428, which means the hours a salon is open are exactly the hours you are not at home. That is the single most common reason people out this way book a mobile hairdresser rather than a salon.

I work until 8pm Monday to Thursday, which gets you a slot after the school run and after tea. Saturday starts at 8.30am and runs until 5pm, so a family can be done and out of the door before lunch. Those are the slots everyone wants, and because I am one person rather than a team they go first. The families who keep the same Saturday morning every six weeks are the ones who book the next one before I leave.

If evenings and Saturdays are both full, it is worth looking at a weekday daytime slot if anyone in the house is working from home. A wash, cut and blow dry is about an hour, a child's trim is a good deal less, and nobody minds if you take a call in the middle of it.

Where I go

Cambourne, and the villages either side of the A428.

  • Great Cambourne
  • Lower Cambourne
  • Upper Cambourne
  • West Cambourne
  • Papworth Everard
  • Papworth St Agnes
  • Elsworth
  • Knapwell
  • Caxton
  • Bourn
  • Eltisley
  • Croxton
  • Graveley
  • Hilton

Papworth Everard and Eltisley are barely a journey at all, and Elsworth and Knapwell are a short hop too. Caxton sits just south of the A428 and Bourn on the far side of Cambourne from me, around 25 minutes. North of Papworth, Graveley and Hilton are easy too. The rule everywhere is the same: anywhere within roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive from Yelling.

If you are further east towards Cambridge itself, there is a separate page on home visits in Cambridge with the villages on that side. Up towards Hilton and Fenstanton, the St Ives page covers that end, and the other direction is on the St Neots page.

What travels

Not just trims. The whole list.

Families get me through the door, but the grown-ups keep me coming back. The whole services list travels. Ladies' and men's cuts, blow dries and up-dos, half, three-quarter and full head foils, balayage, toners and colour refreshes, Olaplex and mask treatments, keratin smoothing, and men's perms and flow cuts. Brows, lashes, waxing and facials come too, and plenty of clients add them to the same visit.

Colour at home works exactly as it does in the salon. The one rule is the skin test, at least 48 hours before your first colour with me. Cambourne is close enough that I can usually drop one round, or I can post it, but it has to happen before the day rather than on it.

From you I need a chair near a plug socket, a bit of floor space and a sink I can rinse at. I do not carry a hydraulic chair or a portable backwash, so hair is washed at your kitchen sink or in the bath. For children, a shower over the bath is often easiest of all. I bring the towels, the gowns and a dustpan, and the floor is swept before I leave.

On booking, two things catch people out. Choose the Home Visit version of each service on Fresha rather than the salon one, because they are listed separately. And there is a £10 call-out charge on top of the service price, built into that home visit listing. If I am cutting the whole family in one go, that is still one visit and one call-out. There is more on how that works in my piece on what a mobile hairdresser actually costs.

Or come to me

Twenty minutes the other way.

Because Cambourne is so close, a fair few clients do a bit of both. A home visit for the children's cuts, and a trip out to the home salon at 10 High Street, Yelling, PE19 6SD when they want an hour to themselves and a colour without anybody needing a snack. There is parking outside, the kettle is always on, and you will be the only client in the room.

Either way it is the same hands and the same products, and both versions are on Fresha, listed separately so you can see what each one costs. If you are booking for an older relative in Cambourne or Papworth who finds getting out difficult, I have written a separate page on home hairdressing for older and housebound clients.

The wider picture of how the mobile service works across both counties is on the mobile hairdressing page, and there is a step by step of what happens on a first home visit. If you have a question this page has not answered, send it over and I will answer it myself.

Questions

What Cambourne families ask first.

How far are you from Cambourne?

Around 20 minutes. The home salon is in Yelling, about eight and a half miles away, and it is a straight run along the A428. Papworth Everard is closer still, around seven minutes, and Elsworth is around twelve. On the Cambridge side of Yelling, Cambourne is the nearest town to my chair, which is why it is such a regular stop.

Which parts of Cambourne and the villages do you cover?

All of Cambourne, so Great, Lower, Upper and West, and the villages round it: Papworth Everard, Papworth St Agnes, Elsworth, Knapwell, Caxton, Bourn, Eltisley, Croxton, Graveley and Hilton. Anywhere within roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive from Yelling is inside the usual area.

Is there a call-out charge?

Yes, £10 on top of the service price, the same as everywhere else in the usual area. It is built into the Home Visit version of each service on Fresha, so you see it before you confirm. If I am doing three of you in one house, it is still one call-out, not three.

Can you do the children's hair as well as mine?

Yes, and it is one of the most common Cambourne bookings. Book the adults and the children into the same visit and I will work through everyone in turn. Children are usually much calmer in their own kitchen than in a salon chair, and if a little one needs a break halfway through, we take one.

Do you colour children's hair?

No. Colour is the one thing I do not do on under-16s. Cuts, blow dries and styling for a party are all fine. Bear in mind that adult prices apply if a children's appointment runs past an hour, which is mostly a teenager with a lot of long hair rather than a toddler trim.

Can you come on a Saturday or in the evening?

Yes. I work until 8pm Monday to Thursday, and Saturday starts at 8.30am. Those are the slots Cambourne families ask for most, so they go first. The easiest way to keep one is to book the next appointment before I leave.

Where do you wash our hair?

At your kitchen sink or in the bath. I do not bring a portable backwash or a hydraulic chair. A sink with a mixer tap is ideal, a shower over the bath works well for children, and I bring the towels and the gowns.

Would it be easier to come to you?

Sometimes, yes. The home salon at 10 High Street, Yelling is around 20 minutes from Cambourne with parking outside. Some clients come to me for their own colour and have me out to the house for the children's cuts. Both are on Fresha, listed separately.

How much do you charge?

Prices depend on hair length, thickness and how long the appointment takes, so they live on Fresha where they stay accurate. The children's cuts are priced by age band there. I have also written about what a mobile hairdresser actually costs and how the call-out fits in.
